What is the Last Litter Program?

The Last Litter Program is a community initiative designed to stop the cycle of accidental litters. If your dog has had an unplanned litter, Dusty Paws Dog Rescue will take in the puppies, provide all their necessary veterinary care, and find them loving forever homes. In return, we cover the cost of desexing the mother dog so she can return to you without the risk of future accidental pregnancies.

Does it cost me anything to participate?

No. Dusty Paws Dog Rescue covers the cost of desexing the mother (at one of our approved partner vets) and all veterinary expenses for the puppies. However, please note that the owner is liable for any additional costs if complications arise during the mother’s surgery.

What happens to the puppies?

By joining the program, you agree to surrender the entire litter to Dusty Paws Dog Rescue. We provide:
  - Full veterinary work (vaccinations, microchipping,    flea/worming).
  -Desexing for every puppy.
  -Careful screening of adoptive homes to ensure they go to the best possible families.

Question 4

Can I keep one of the puppies or give one to a friend?

Accepted Answer

No. To participate in the program and have the mother’s desexing covered, the entire litter must be surrendered to the rescue. Selling or giving away any of the puppies deems the contract null and void, and you may become liable for any expenses incurred by the rescue.

When will the mother dog be desexed?

The procedure will be arranged as soon as she is medically fit to undergo it (typically once the puppies are weaned and her milk has dried up).

Where does the vet work take place?

Dusty Paws Dog Rescue works with specific partner veterinary clinics across South Australia. We will only cover costs for appointments booked by us at these approved locations.

What if my dog hasn’t given birth yet?

We can still help! If your dog is currently pregnant, we can discuss options, which may include having the mother move to an experienced whelping foster care home where she can raise her pups in a safe environment before being desexed and returned to you.
